Information about Hanoi's Church Boutique Hotel

Maybe Hanoi’s Church Boutique Hotel heard me complaining about it looking tired and dated when I last passed through here for Travelfish.org, as not only have they opened another hotel on nearby Hang Gai Street, the original Nha Tho location has been completely refurbished — and my jaw hit the floor when I saw the transformation.

Hotels in Hanoi change regularly. Sometimes it’s a name change, other times a bit of tidying up and a paint job, and very occasionally they rip it all out and start again. The Church falls into the latter category. I was assured that the management is still the same, but they have really upped their game.
The building is still the same building, the room layout is the same and the door is still opened by a uniformed doorman, or if you’re as lucky as I was, two of them. But gone are the tatty carpets and the dark wood fittings, to be replaced with mirrored walls, lots of white, large black and white photos and an overall touch of glamour. The designers haven’t got it all right; in my non-interior designer opinion for example, the carpets are too heavy and elaborate and there are a few too many patterns going on, but if you want a change from more traditional Vietnamese style and can’t stand laminated wood wardrobes then this could be the place for you. It’s not quite Maison d’Hanoi but that’s where it’s trying to be.
The heavy use of white and mirrors is definitely an advantage when it comes to the smallest of the rooms; despite their size and having only a small window the rooms don’t feel at all claustrophobic, although they do lack storage. If you want more space, upgrade to a slightly larger room at the front or a suite. Bathrooms are now modern black and white affairs. Some are compact, but still squeeze in a large sink, a big-enough shower cubicles and plenty of fluffy white towels.

Hotel Riva Surya Opens at Chao Phraya

Some of Bangkok’s most visited and beloved historical sites sit along the Chao Phraya River. We’re talking about The Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun- all places every traveler automatically places on the top of his or her “must-see” list. Now a new hotel along the river is offering luxury and easy-access to all the great sights of Bangkok. The Riva Surya opened just a short time ago and is already receiving rave reviews from guests who herald the hotel’s service as stellar and the rooms as stylish and spacious. It contains 68 guestrooms starting with the entry-level Urban Room, which boasts 32-34 square meters of space, a plasma television, iPod docking station, and airy balcony. Riva Rooms measure in just a tad smaller at 30 square meters but offer 90-degree river views. Deluxe and Premium Riva Rooms clock in at 40 and 48 square meters respectively and also include tiled balconies.
As for restaurant options, guests can drink and dine inside the market-style Babble & Rum. Besides breathtaking views of the river, the restaurant and lounge also offers comfort food and authentic Thai and Chinese dishes made with organic produce. The Café is the place for all-day breakfast including freshly baked breads and fresh fruit. The Garden is promoted as an inviting dining area set in lush greenery. Lookout, the island bar, is an intimate space with lofted booths and knowledgeable bartenders poised to mix up whatever you desire or to recommend a perfect wine pairing.
The Riva Surya boasts a number of activities inside the hotel. To relax or escape the heat of the city, take a dip in the riverside pool with Jacuzzi. A fitness center with treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical machine, cross fit machine, and weights helps keep guests in shape. Hotel employees are also on hand to assist with travel, tour and transportation plans. When it’s time to head out for a night on the town, Riva Surya is within walking distance to Khao San Road, and one can easily access the city center by hopping aboard one of the Chao Phraya Express Boats or Bangkok’s fast and convenient Skytrain.

Halloween Party Dress up at the Meninas Hotel in Madrid

Halloween is full of mystery and enchantment. The Meninas Hotel in Madrid will be one of the few in the world and the only one in Madrid to dress up its façade in a fanciful Halloween theme. The magnificent front of the Meninas Hotel, housed in an aristocratic 19th Century building, is one of its most remarkable features and can be seen at 7 Campo mares Street, close to the Royal Palace.

The Meninas Hotel is located in a protected building from 1860. It features six stories with typical Madrid-style wrought iron balconies, which have been decorated with the classic Halloween pumpkins. The hotel’s regular lighting has been turned off to be replaced by the soft light that emanates from inside the carved pumpkins. The result is a colorful and exciting architectural surprise to all visitors, an original and unique idea in the Spanish capital.

The theme continues inside the building, to amuse and surprise all its visitors and guests: the staff at the Meninas will portray classic horror characters such as demons, emperors of darkness, vampires… even the Hotel Director, Pedro Alonso, will surprise visitors in his costume. The interior will also be decorated with the recreation of a stunning cave of deadly spiders, suspenseful music and projections from the netherworld, to make the most mystery-filled night of the year even more fun.
