The location, in Sri Lanka's Eastern Province was a war zone until 2009. The Sri Lankan Board of Investment said: "It reflects the peaceful situation in the country as well as the growing confidence on the part of the investor community to start hotel projects close to the former conflict areas. Tourism is one of the key economic sectors that Sri Lanka is targeting, since it provides many opportunities for investor in hotels and other tourism related activities." The property is expected to open for business in July 2014.
The boutique hotel will be named Karpaha Kalkudah, and will consist of 30 villas and a private plunge pool set among 300 coconut, kohomba and palmyra trees. It will also have 200 metros of private beach.
